James RANDELL 1844

James Randell born 1844 was called after his father James Randell, 1811. He was the child of James and Mary Gambling and was born in North Walsham, in the first months of 1844. As a child lived at the family home in Market Place.
By the 1871 census he was aged 28, an Ironmonger in Norwich and married to Elizabeth Evans (see Elizabeth Evans re; evidence). Together they lived in St Stephens Square, Norwich with their three girls. Tragically it appears James Randell died before his next birthday. Recorded in the first quarter of 1872 is the death of 28 year old James Randell in Norwich, Norfolk.
Elizabeth is left a widow with three children. The eldest child May Elizabeth was less than five years old when her father died.

ANCESTRY ~ James / John / James / James

Elizabeth EVANS 1842

Elizabeth Evans was born in 1842 in Syleham, Suffolk and was the daughter of William and Mary Evans. William was a farmer of a 100 acres in Stoven, Suffolk. He was born 1801 in Fressingfield, Suffolk. His wife Mary was ten years his junior and was also born in Suffolk at the delightfully named hamlet of Palgrave.
Elizabeth and her older sister Sarah attended the boarding School of Miss Lucy E Chappell in Fressingfield before Sarah returned to Suffolk and Elizabeth took a position at Robert Chamberlains Drapery Store in Market Place, North Walsham. This placed her a few doors away from James and obviously ultimately led to them marrying. However I can not find a record of their marriage in either the Suffolk or Norfolk register. Despite this I am confident she is the correct person. The principle evidence being; eldest child May Elizabeth is staying with her grandfather and aunt around the time of the death of her father.
Together they lived in Norwich and had three children before James unfortunately died, a very young 28, leaving Elizabeth a widow. This tragedy, it seems, led to the break up of the family as middle child, Alice left to live with her grandmother in North Walsham and the other two girls went on a grand tour of England with their mother.
By 1861 they are living in Rutland Terrace, Bakewell in Derbyshire. Elizabeth is the housekeeper to Charles Satchel a Surveyor of Lakes (or possibly Taxes). By the following census Elizabeth finds herself in Hyde, on the Isle of Wight. Once again recorded as a housekeeper. It is here she lives out the remainder of her life. Elizabeth Randell died in Hyde in January 1911 age 68.

James and Elizabeth Randell had the following children:

May Elizabeth RANDELL 1867, Norwich, Norfolk
Alice Ellen RANDELL 1869 Norwich, Norfolk
Kate Kathleen RANDELL 1871 Norwich, Norfolk
