Matilda RANDELL 1872

Matilda Randell was the forth and final child born to James Randell and Emily Lane. She was born in the final quarter of 1872 and christened 26 December 1872 in St Nicholas Church, North Walsham. She was born when her mother was 36.
Like many of the females of her period she entered service for a period and in the 1891 census she was recorded as a housemaid at The Elms a Private School in North Walsham. The Elms catered for the needs of a variety of girls, almost certainly refined young ladies, between the ages of 11 and 18 and coming from as far a field as Australia and South Africa.
Ten years later the 1901 census shows her to be back with her parents, living in a four room house in Norwich Road, North Walsham. On this occasion no occupation was recorded. In the house immediately next door were Blanche and John Dixon.
It appears that Matilda was never to marry and died age 70, in August 1943. Her death was recorded in the Outer Norwich Registration area.
